Because of this, replies will be posted much quicker, as the 5 to 10 second ping to the weblogs.com server will be replaced by a much shorter ping to the Reinvented server.

I was browsing through the special features on the Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones DVD, and I watched a featurette on the movie's sound production.
They talked about how much time they spent perfecting the sound effects, especially for the scene where Obi-Wan was chasing Jango Fett through the asteroid field. They wanted to find a truly original sound for Jango's bombs. It ended up sounding pretty cool... but it made me realize a mistake all sci-fi movies and tv shows make: sound effects for explosions in space.
We learn from a young age that sound can not travel in space. So how come whenever we see an explosion on tv or in the movies, we hear sound effects? I think it would be awesome, if for once, a movie had no sound effects for an explosion in space. You would only see it. It's something that I've never seen done before, but would make it that much more believable. [54 replies]

Why, in some apartments, is the bathroom light switch on the outside of the bathroom?
In my current apartment, and in my girlfriend's previous 3 apartments, the light switch has always been on the outside of the bathroom, in the hallway. I have no idea why. I don't see any advantage of it.. In fact, it's very annoying when you have friends turning the lights on and off when you're in there. Any ideas? [9323 replies]

Over the weekend, I bought a Linksys Wireless Internet Kit from Futureshop. It was super easy to set up, I just plugged it into my current network, installed the card on my laptop, and I was wireless in less than 5 minutes. In fact, I recommend it to anyone who wants to go wireless.
All was going great, until all of a sudden, my laptop stopped working.
So now here I am, with wireless internet in my apartment, and a Compaq Armada laptop that won't boot up. That's like giving a kid a beebee gun and no bullets.
I guess this gives me an excuse to get new laptop.

Posted by Brad Pineau on August 28th, 2003 at 11:00 pm AST [6951 views] I have come to the conclusion that a lot of people who use the internet are perverts. I've always assumed this was so.. but now I have proof.
Ever since I've posted this article, which is nothing more than just a funny video, I have received dozens of referers from google and yahoo about the same topic. For example, the latest search-engine-referered visitors found my site using the following combination of keywords:
These are just some of the examples... Now, I realize that there is bound to be a few people out there who search for this kind of stuff... but 75% of the people who found my site through a search engine were searching for things like this. Seems rather high, no? The majority of the other percentage reached me by searching for tornado video clip, which I can totally understand and is totally awesome.
Have any other weblog owners seen similar hilarious referers to their blogs? [49 replies]

Dear TD Bank,
Hello, how are you? I am good. I was in today to cash my pay cheque, and I have to say, I received excellent service. The teller was quick and efficient, and I was out with my cash within minutes. Oh how I wish all my visits could be this pleasant...
For the past four months, I have been cashing my pay cheques at your Queen Street branch in Charlottetown, mainly because no other banks will cash cheques from the TD Bank (which is where these are from) without a seven day hold. Now, I can understand why other banks may want to do this... and I am ok with that. What I am not ok with, is the service I get when I visit your bank.
I'm guessing that the problems come from the fact that I don't have a bank account with you, so therefore, your tellers seem to not trust me, because I'm an "outsider". They even look at me like I'm a criminal who's trying to cash a fake cheque. Sure, I guess I could open a bank account with you, but I shouldn't have to do such a thing to get proper service.
You see, each teller seems to follow their own set of bank policies. For example, one day, a teller may ask for a picture ID. Then, the next day, one will ask for 2 sets of ID, like a drivers license and a credit card. And sometimes, they don't even ask for any ID at all. Also, some tellers will not accept an expired license, while others don't even care.
Another example... some tellers need to go to the back office with the cheque to "verify" its signature... while others don't even care. One teller even made a five minute phone call. I don't know who to... but she told me it was necessary to confirm the cheque's bank account.
Another thing that seems to cause trouble is when I want to buy a money order to pay my apartment rent. Some tellers will sell me the money order with no problem... while others tell me that I should have an account with them. I was once even told that I couldn't buy a money order, and I had to go out to the car to get my girlfriend (who does have account with them), transfer the money to her account, and then buy the money order.
On top of all this, getting into your Queen Steet branch is such a pain in the ass at 9:30 in the morning.. it takes about fifteen minutes to even find a parking spot.
So you see, every visit is like a new experience. I never know what I need to do to get my cheque cashed. I understand that banks need policies... but tellers need to follow them all the time, and not selectively like they have been doing. It just confuses us customers...
Anyways, I just thought I'd let you know that I'm an extremely unhappy customer. This letter doesn't do my unhappiness justice.
See you next payday!
Sincerely,
Brad Pineau.
The above is a letter I have written to the TD Bank. I haven't sent it (I don't really plan on sending it) but it did feel good to write the letter and vent my anger. [46 replies]
Posted by Brad Pineau on September 4th, 2003 at 5:59 pm AST [9302 views] This morning, some jerk broke into my car! From what I can tell, he (or she) took my Discman, the Discman car adaptor, and my girlfriend's new pair of jeans. I have to ask.. what the hell are they going to do with a woman's pair of jeans!?!?
The theif aparently tore my car apart (not literally)... the glove compartment was open, and all the papers where thrown about the front seat... there was a bag of garbage in the back seat that was torn open, and the back seats were folded down and all the bags that were in the trunk were torn open and looked thru. The bags in the trunk were things we had not yet unpacked from our move to our apartment... so I have no idea what was taken from them (Nothing important, I'm sure).
At least they didn't take any important things, like my car insurance and registration, or my credit card statements I had tucked in between the front seats.
Yes, my doors were unlocked... but don't tell me I should have had them locked... that's not the point.. I shouldn't HAVE to lock my doors.
We called the police, and they told us someone else had their car (from the same parking lot) broken into as well.
Theif - if you are reading this... you are a bastard.

The following is a list of ten rules that superhero movies unofficially follow. I put this list together after watching Daredevil, and realizing the similarities between it and other superhero movies, such as Spiderman, Batman, X-Men, etc.
- Superheros can get hurt by bullets or sharp objects that can peirce skin, but not by jumping from heights or long distances, grabbing or jumping onto fast moving vehicles, or being hit hard by blunt objects.
- The Laws of Physics, such as gravity, do not apply. Superheros can do incredible backflips and jumps as if gravity wasn't pulling them down... and when an object is thrown, it will travel in a straight line until it hits a wall.
- Superheros always have a romantic love interest.
- Someone who the superhero loves will to die.
- Superheros tend to be named after some type of animal.
- Superheros only needs to cover their eyes for people not to recognize them. The mouth, chin, voice, or body shape do not help in giving away their identity.
- If there are two superheros in the movie, they will eventually fight each other.
- Cops are stupid and can never catch the villian, no matter how many cops there are.
- At some point in time, the cops will be after the superhero.... no matter how good the superhero is, or how many lives they have saved.
- There's always a sequel.

I had my 1993 Plymouth Acclaim inspected today, and it turns out that it'll cost about $1000 to bring it up to par to pass inspection. Well, it felt like it wasn't worth spending the money to fix it, so my girlfriend and I went and bought a new 2003 Toyota Echo.
I guess we could have gotten our old car fixed, it was probably the smartest thing to do financially... but we've been considering getting a new car for a year now, and after seeing Steve buy a new car, we just couldn't resist.
We got an awesome deal on the car, too. Because I'm a recent UPEI graduate, they gave us $1000 cash back (I pick up the cheque tomorrow). They also paid the first month for us, and waived the standard fees (They probably waive the fees for all customers).
I really recommend the Toyota Dealership... they were super nice, and made everything really easy. I told them we'd be back in a few years for a Rav4.

Posted by Brad Pineau on September 8th, 2003 at 1:54 am AST [22861 views] One of my biggest pet peeves (other than anything to do with Missy Elliot) is people who don't respond to email. In the past few weeks, I've sent about a dozen emails to different people, and have yet to receive a response.
Why are they not responding? Did they not receive it? Is my mail server working right? Did I sent it incorrectly? Are they ignoring me? Did they read it, and plan on responding later? None of these questions would be floating around if they would simply respond to emails when they receive them.
This article isn't directed at anyone in particular, and I'm not trying to lash out at anyone... but that said... if you have receieved an email from me and have not yet responded... it wouldn't hurt to respond now. =) [1322 replies]
Posted by Brad Pineau on September 10th, 2003 at 7:20 pm AST [7250 views] Today on Much Music, I watched one of the reporters interviewing people on the streets of Toronto about the recent RIAA lawsuits against some 261 music swappers.
Everyone person who they showed on tape had the same thing to say:
Why bother picking on people like that?
Everyone downloads music off the web!
Go after drug dealers or murderers or something more worthwhile!
It's obvious that a lot of people are outraged that 261 americans are being sued for simply sharing music... something that should be free and that everyone does. Well, what I dont understand, is what the hell is wrong with these people? It's very, very clear that sharing music on the internet is ILLEGAL.
It would be ideal if everyone could download whatever music they liked, and not have to pay $20 for a CD with only a few decent songs on it... but this is not the point. The point is, downloading music that doesn't belong to you is illegal. Everyone knows this... so why does everyone get so angry when the authories finally do something about it?
I hope that people clue into this soon, before more lawsuits are handed out. One of the first settlements reached was for $2000, and this was with the mother of the 12 year old girl. In retrospect, this is merely a slap on the wrist. Under American law, defendants could be fined as much as $100,000 per song downloaded. People should take this as a sign - stop downloading pirated music while you can.
I agree that the music industry, as it stands right now, sucks. I hate paying for music as much as everyone. All I'm saying, is don't get mad at the authories when they start handing out lawsuits. It was bound to happen. [72 replies]

The next handheld video game system to hit the market is the Nokia N-Gage. While Nokia is new to the video game industry, the N-Gage is looking pretty cool. Not only is it a gaming system with graphics as equally impressive as the Gameboy Advance, but the N-Gage is also a tri-band mobile phone, MP3 player, FM Radio, and a personal assistant with email, internet browsing and instant messaging.
The Nokia N-Gage website has lots of goodies... especially the featured games video.
N-Gage should hit the shelves in Canada sometime in October. Save up your money for this puppy.. it's gonna cost you around $400 ($299 USD). A little steep? Maybe... but you'd be the coolest geek on the block. [91 replies]

Being a Survivor fan since the 1st season, I've seen about every episode, and I've got to say that the seventh season of Survivor is turning out to be one of the best.
Tonight's episode was especially awesome. Not only did we get to Rupert sport a new dress, but we see a mutany (the Drake tribe decide to throw an immune competition to kick someone out) and 2 backstabbings (2 members of Burton's alliance decide to vote him out). And on top of all this, we see an angry Jeff Probst at the tribal councel (he suspected that Drake threw the challenge).
If you haven't been watching this season, I suggest you at least catch the next episode. I think you're going to see the underdog Morgan tribe (who have lost every single challenge this far) turn themselves around... especially now that they have Rupert catching them fish. [42 replies]
Posted by Brad Pineau on October 9th, 2003 at 11:34 pm AST [7714 views] One of the biggest pains about living in an apartment building is having to put up with loud neighbors.
When we first moved into this apartment building, we had vacant apartments on all sides, mainly because we moved in May, which is the end of the year for UPEI students. Now that the new semester has started, our building is full... and we've got the most annoying neighbors who moved in next door... we call them "The Girls of 302".
I think these girls listen to music 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. And they have their bass turned up to the max. The music just pounds through the walls, and it is very very annoying.
We first resorted to pounding on the walls to get them to stop. (*sigh* I feel like an old man.) Pounding on the walls never worked - they either ignored us or pounded back. So then my girlfriend started calling the apartment landlords, and complaining. That has worked everytime. However, about an hour ago, the girls of 302 starting up with the music again. It was especially annoying because I was trying to watch Survivor. Zoe called Art, our landlord, and complained again. His repsonse, "302, eh? Ok." And since then, the music still continues. It appears as though the landlord hasn't done anything about it yet.
So now here's the problem. Pounding doesn't get them to stop. Calling the landlord doesn't get them to stop. What the heck can I do to get them to stop? [86 replies]

Posted by Brad Pineau on November 11th, 2003 at 8:33 pm AST [11922 views] Since me and my girlfriend (yes yes, I know I should be saying "my girlfriend and I") have moved into our apartment in May, we have yet to take back any empty pop bottles... so as you can imagine, we have built up quite a collection.
Tonight, I decided to take back 4 cases of bottles to the Quik Pik (errr... I guess it's called Needs now), to get rid of some of the clutter in the apartment. I took the 4 cases (24 750ml bottles) and put them beside the cash register counter at the store. The cashier was with a customer, so I guess she didn't notice me putting them there.
So I went to the back of the store to pick up a pizza and some pop. On my way back I noticed some greasy guy walk in with 2 grocery bags, and I could hear bottles clanging inside them while he walked. He took his bottles, and set them up beside where I put mine.
When I got in line at the cash register, I noticed the greasy guy at the counter, getting his cash for his bottles. I saw the cashier hand him a $10 bill and some change. I glanced over at his bottles, and saw only a dozen small pop bottles - only about $3 worth. He accepted his cash and quickly paced out of the store. (I think you can see where I'm going with this).
When it was my turn at the cash register, I placed my pizza and pop on the counter, and told the cashier I had 24 pop bottles, and pointed to the 4 cases. She looked at me and said "Those are yours?"
Sure enough, the greasy little bastard claimed ownership to my bottles. $9.60 worth of em. The cashier couldn't believe that he took the money. And I guess I'm pretty lucky that the cashier believed that the bottles were mine.
It makes me so mad that there are people like that. Yes, I know that it's not a big deal, compared to the muggings and murders that happen in big cities. But this is PEI. People aren't supposed to be like that on PEI. I didn't end up losing any money, but the incident almost made me as mad as when someone broke into my car. Well.. maybe not that mad.
Oh, and by the way... the greasy little guy went to school with my girlfriend.. so I recognized him. His name was Jay. I'll post his last name when I can ask Zoe about it. [1377 replies]

So we're only a couple of weeks away from Christmas, Zoe (my girlfriend) and I are getting into the Christmas spirit... The picture on the right is our very first Christmas tree. We had originally decorated it together using multi-colored lights, but we thought we'd rather a white-lighted tree, so Zoe replaced them with the white lights you see in the picture. (You can click on the picture to enlarge it)
Something Zoe and I are doing different this year is the way we're doing our shopping. Instead of doing the usual buying presents for each other, we're going to try buying presents for ourselves. Some may say that that's not what Christmas is all about... well, we're still buying presents for our familys. I think it's rather exciting buying our own presents. We're gonna head out together and go shopping within the next few days. It'll be super fun and festive. =)
What's on my list? I think I'm gonna go for an XBOX and XBOX game - Counterstrike. If not that, maybe a surround sound system. Whatever it is, it's coming from Futureshop.
What's on Zoe's list? She's thinking maybe an MP3 player, new Microwave, and some house stuff. But she's not sure - she's overwhelmed with choices. [9706 replies]

9. Usual Suspects
8. Memento
7. Se7en
6. Gladiator
5. Pulp Fiction
4. American Beauty
3. Lord of the Rings (I'm counting the trilogy as one movie)
2. Matrix
1. Fight Club

2003 has certainly been the most eventful year of my life. The following were the highlights of my year:- Developed software and websites with my new company, Solostar Software
- Graduated from UPEI with a Major in Computer Science, a Minor in Mathematics and a Minor in Physics
- Worked at silverorange for 6 months
- Moved out into an apartment with my girlfriend
- Bought a new car
- Started working back at Timeless Technologies
I hope everyone has a wonderful new year. It will certainly be an interesting one for me... I'm going to be doing some very interesting and exciting work at Timeless Technologies/Timeless Digital, and I plan on hitting the stock market. Also, there's going to be some awesome movies coming out this year (more on this later).

Way to go Habs... way to show those Boston bullies who's boss! If you don't already know, the Montreal Canadians have beaten the Boston Bruins in the first round of the Playoffs.
Next up in the 2nd round is the Tampa Bay Lightning... Now, Tampa Bay will be much harder to beat than Boston, but I have full faith in the Canadians!

Yes, it's a little early to start predicting... but thats what makes it fun. =)

If you're like me and you like quirky and cool things, then you'll be interested in this. You can actually buy an acre of land on the moon!
I bought an acre of land myself - I forget the exact location of it... (my land deed and map are still packed away from the move) but it's somewhere in the Southern hemosphere.
Now, I know you're prolly thinking this is fake, but they say it's for real! Besides... even if it is fake... it's still a pretty cool thing to show your friends.
So if you're interested in owning a piece of the Moon, check out www.MoonLotsForSale.com. [38 replies]

The petition count is over 650, the member count is over 600, and there has been over 70,000 signatures posted.
Recently, some excellent features have been added to the site. The most useful being a signature validation tool. When creating a petition, you have the option to turn on the "Validate Petition" feature.. this means that after a signature is posted, the signor is sent an email with a link, and the signor must click on the link to prove that their email address is a valid one, before the signature is posted to the petition. This will ensure that all signatures on a petition are valid - very useful for blocking spam.
A new round of updates is coming - I'll post again afterwards. In the mean time, feel free to create a free petition at Petition Spot. [50 replies]
