[email]Hi,
I run a small 'review based' magazine at the media school of my university and was wondering whether anyone had an 'American Dad' review they may want to submit?
As an avid fan of Family Guy I have noticed how the cartoon is beginning to explode here in England, so late after you guys in the states have seen it.
So American Dad is unheard of here and I have only just found out about it. I would like to make the students here at the Media School of Bournemouth University aware of the follow -up show.
Unfortunately I have not yet seen much about it...I believe the BBC here in England may show it later next year around Easter time.
If someone would like to submit a review of around 500-words I would be more than happy to show those here in the media school.
This is your work, so feel free to compare to Family Guy, swear, be outrageous...whatever...rip it apart, praise it...your shout…it’s an independent magazine.
If anyone has anything email me: lukemurray84@yahoo.co.uk
Cheers guys.

[email]American Dad is the worst animated show to ever be aired on fox! It takes the few bad things from Family Guy and magnifies them by a power of ten. Its comic timing is not only fundamentally flawed but is like some sort of anti-comic timing. This anti or counter-timing takes away any hope of even a funny idea being executed in such a way as to be remotely humorous.
Sorry,
~SB
The show has the exact same structure as Family Guy so don't look for anything new here. However, I did get a few laughs out of the pilot episode so It may devolop into a decent show but since FOX is making new episodes of Family Guy I'm not sure where a show so similar will fit in.
P.S. The old dog lifting its leg only to let out a puff of dust made me laugh out loud, a rare occurance.

I thought it was pretty good. But one thing you have to think about is that it's the first episode. Family Guy wasn't anywhere near as funny in it's first couple of episodes as it was in the second and third seasons. I think it just needs time to get going and maybe it'll start to be less like Family Guy.

[email]I thought it was pretty good for a first episode. They need to get the mother away from the emotionless character she is. In my opinion, they should become more political, maybe show the girl as more pessimistic like the modern day liberal.

[email]Well...
I was a bit less than impressed. Like some of the others said, it is a pilot so I am gonna give it a chance. I was expecting more. We have some things to consider here.
Is there an animated series that can top Family Guy?
The Simpsons paved the way.
What are the odds of Mr. Mcfarlane creating TWO perfect arrangements of timing, characters, and animations?

[email]While Family Guy's premiere episode may not have been the greatest, it was no where NEAR the level of bitter disgrace of American Dad. I have never seen a show seem so entirely forced in my life... and I have seen House of the Dead. Family guy has some sporadic moments, but the timing is impeccable, the problem with American Dad was that they had so many that the show never really gets a chance to catch a good rhythm.

American Dad was OK but was nowhere near as good as Family Guy !!
It was pretty funny in parts but wasn't fluent enough !!
But give it time and it could develop into a programme to rival Family Guy!!

[email]Well the pilot was ok, in my opinion it totally screamed Family Guy. If Family Guy stayed cancelled and this were to replace it that would make sense but both of these going at the same time? No thanks
& honestly, with Seth doing most of the voice-overs for Family guy AND American dad his originality is definetely being strained.

yeah the pilot episode was alright. i was one of the originals to see it because it was on the new family guy dvd. anyways, it was good. give it a while and it should turn out awesome. The thing is, mcfarlane is doing them both, and with new episodes every week when he writes for both and speaks in both is tough. Good overall now, but if mcfarlane got caught up with too much, it would be cancelled or else both shows will collapse. Ok, pretty good now tho.

This show is doomed from the get go, reguardless if it is infact funny or not, the pokes too much fun at the republican't party, specifically the Dumbya administration, also poking fun at such faux news reporters such as brit hume, sean "baby jesus" hannity. no matter how funny or un funny, low or high ratings, fox will cancel this show because of their often misguided conservative views and won't have any show poking fun at their ofen mis-guided views.

I don't know about that. The Simpsons mock Fox continually, and have called rupert murdoch a drunk, gun-toting fascist. The thing is, they're so amoral (on top of being misguided) that they look only at the ratings as the bottom line. Simpsons gets the ratings because it's funny. So nearly every Fox affiliate shows two or three episodes a day. American Dad is as bad or worse than Stacked and Life on a Stick and all are headed straight for the top of the trash heap that Family Guy listed off in its opener last night.

"american dad" seems primed to have more of a satirical slant than "family guy."
dedicating an episode to taking mel gibson down a notch -- that's not what "family guy" is about.
i think "american dad" might end up being macfarlane's version of "south park."
I love American Dad!!! I saw episode two and you really need to update your web site!!
Anyone have peacan sandies? I'm not kidding!!
I agree with you about the way you view the issue. I remember, long time ago, Jack London said something like "Everything positive has a negative side; everything negative has a positive side." I also find it interesting to see different points of views and learn useful things in the discussion. Posted by: Richard Hill at May 22, 2005 08:59 AM

[email]Ugh... American Dad is an awful show. It had some moments... but even the most blatantly unfunny comedies have that. It would be obvious that a second show from the same creators wouldn't be as good as the first, but this goes beyond that.

If you dont like a show change the channel mid program and dont watch it ever again. The most laughable thing you can do is jump on the internet and write down all your uninspired idiotic deductions about a program like your opinion matters. If you want to be a tv critic go to university and get a qualification and if you think you can make better tv go and do that.... are you all such fragile people that a cartoon makes you angry enough to still be upset by it after the credits roll, so much so that you have to vent it on the internet... Look for the positivity when you watch tv because it's purpose for us is entertainment...

Personally, I've had a couple Sundays where I've laughed more during American Dad than I did at the new Family Guy episodes...
I think it's great. The pilot was AWFUL. I will give everyone that... but yeah, now that the show has hit a stride - I think this page needs updating.

Just clicked on some links to find out if the voice of Stans Boss was indeed Patrick Stewart (yes) and ended up reading this page. Im shocked to see everyone slating American Dad so badly, its really really funny, maybe not quite as funny as Family Guy but then thats had several seasons to perfect its comedy, American Dad will improve with each season muc like every other show, cartoon otherwise, but to slate it so early is harsh.
The characters are pretty good, the aliens voice is awful and is borderline acceptable but the others are pretty good, Stan being a much better lead character than Peter Griffin (Family Guy) who is just a whiney twat with a terrible voice. Although the dog (Brian) is still the best overall character.
Anyway this is poor im treading into serious nerd territory here so Im off to listen to drum&bass and speak to women to make myself feel normal again.
word up!

[email]jeez tough crowd huh - well it is on tv tonight so I will tell you then - all u media people are way 2 serious and analytical - just watch the show for enjoyment - we don't need a big intellectual debate over a cartoon...
